HIPAA Training

6 hours Valid 2 years Included in the 10-week program

Patient privacy isn't optional in a dental office. It's federal law. This six-hour course walks through the HIPAA rules that apply every day: how to handle paper charts, electronic records, phone calls, and texts in a way that keeps patient information protected. Discussion sessions and real-world scenarios make the rules concrete.

Course objectives

Upon completion, you will:

  • Understand the history, purpose, and scope of HIPAA
  • Know what counts as Protected Health Information (PHI) and what doesn't
  • Apply the Privacy Rule's requirements in daily dental office work
  • Implement Security Rule safeguards for electronic records
  • Identify the steps to take if a breach occurs
  • Recognize risk areas specific to dental offices and know how to address them

What you earn

A written exam follows the coursework. Passing earns a HIPAA certification valid for two years, tailored for dental health care providers.

The course includes case studies and group discussion. You'll work through situations that come up in actual dental offices, not abstract hypotheticals.

Prerequisites: None. Familiarity with dental office operations is helpful but not required.
